March Reading Wrapped

March Reading Wrapped

I moved! Not far, but this ate into my reading and relaxing time significantly so I was only able to finish 2 books. Luckily my new home has plenty of cozy spots to settle into, so I anticipate next month is gonna be a good one.

1. Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan

My Rating: 3.5
Goodreads Rating:

I feel there is a cluster of Irish female authors who write all the same kinds of books with complicated and oftentimes bad people making poor romantic decisions. Think Sally Rooney, Caroline O’Donoghue, Claire Daverley, and now Naoise Dolan. They pretty much could have interchangeably written each other books, but the fact is I keep reading them. I like this kind of detached, manipulative main character and the authors’ very straightforward style of writing. I find these to be interesting, unchallenging reads.

2. The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica

My Rating: 3.5
Goodreads Rating: 3.77

Bazterrica’s most recent book follows a trapped cult member in a dystopian, ruined world. And truly this was a really great first half of a book. I am used to Bazterrica’s horrifying imagery and abrupt endings, but I really just wanted more out of it. I didn’t think the characters were adequately explored or developed, and by the time I felt properly invested, it was over. I would love to see what Bazterrica would do over another 200 pages. That being said, I am captivated by the author’s prose as it is both breathtaking and terrifying, with imagery that lingers.
